Get Off to a Good Start
What can you do to get off to a good start of the season? Even though opening day is a way off there are several things that can be done in advance to make sure you get the most out of the day. Check that all your gear is in good order, waders don’t leak, line is clean and a sound leader attached, you have enough of the right tippet material and all the flies of the correct patterns for you fishing destination.
You could even go out and do some casting practice. And if you do don’t just try to cast as far as you can. Casting a short line without tangles or crashing onto the water are more important than distance when it comes to catching fish.
If you can find any guides to read that give tips for the water you are going to fish could give you some ideas of how to fish without too much trial and error. Even better talk to someone that has fished there before, preferably with some success as you don’t want to copy others mistakes.
Plan the day exactly where you are going to fish and make sure the water is easily accessible you won’t catch fishing thrashing around in the undergrowth or walking miles to reach the water.
Have a plan B if water conditions or the weather are against you on the day. It is also a good idea to check prevailing conditions on the internet before you leave home in the morning rather than arriving at the water and finding it unfishable.
Tight lines.
